Meet Steve Kelly, director of Grind Projects - a company that provides communities with quality skateparks that allow the local youth to get excited by skateboarding and further their skills, in a safe and fun environment. Grind Projects was born in 2018 and it has been full steam ahead ever since.
"Grind Projects came about because we loved skating from the get go, and loved watching the skate parks being built. I got into it around 12 years ago, and I learned from some of the other companies that were doing it and picked up the good (and the bad) from them. Then I started my own gig, and here we are.
We’ve definitely got an insight where all the people that work for me, and my partner, we all skate. It’s about taking risks as well, skateboarding is evolving rapidly - the talent these days is insane. We need to stay ahead of them, keeping skating creative.
It starts with a community making a noise to their local council saying we need a skatepark. Once we’ve knocked out the design, and everyone’s on the same page, we can hit the ground running. I think each skate park should have at least one element that makes it unique.
I get stoked seeing other people being happy with what we’ve done, we put a lot of hard work into our builds. It’s awesome because you get to see tricks that you couldn’t even imagine being done on things you’ve built.
