Meet Mitch & Tahnaya, the couple behind boutique homewares business Petal Me Please.
Mitch: What we create is tiled furniture - coffee tables, bedside tables, things like that. We also import Italian ceramics. I wanted to be a tattoo artist, but I could never afford it. I had a drink, some rum, and I engraved the bottle. The rest is history, I’ve been doing that for about 9 years now.
Tahnaya: Mitch and I have been together for seven years now. We have the same design eye I suppose. We really enjoy the creative process and throwing ideas to each other. We do really work well together.
Tahnaya: With our furniture, we go to tile shops and select tiles that we really like and want to work with. We choose a style that suits the tile, Mitch cuts the wood, drills it all together. Then we both tile and grout it, and that’s it.
Mitch: So the garage was for cars, but we needed the space and I’ve always had a lot of flash art that I’ve never really used, it’s just been rolled up. Last Christmas we repainted, restyled and hung everything how we wanted it, and made it into our workshop.
Mitch: Our goal would be for me to quit my day job. The reason we started the business was to watch our kids grow and take them to school, things like that. 3 to 4 years and a warehouse or a shed, and doing this full time, that’s the goal.
