It’s awesome to think that the plastic bottles we use every day can be recycled into clothes. That’s why Dickies has partnered with Unifi, the maker of REPREVE® to develop durable Dickies Khaki from recycled fibre that contains post-industrial fibre waste and post-consumer plastic bottles, turning man’s trash into – well, man’s high-quality workwear.
Here’s how it works: plastic bottles labelled with the #1 on the bottom are the same chemical make-up as polyester. After many years of development, REPREVE fine-tuned their proprietary process that allows bottle flakes to be transformed into REPREVE fibre. The result is a uniquely soft and lightweight fibre, that when balanced with tough Dickies cotton, results in a truly environmentally responsive poly/cotton fabric that is durable and comfortable.
Every pair of Dickies Khaki is made with nine plastic bottles, which require less water when washing, less energy when drying, less waste in landfills and fewer replacement costs due to the unique durability of the pants. Take a look:
